Dear Henry,
On April 17, 2010 you attended your first Record Store Day! Record store day is to honor and celebrate the quickly disappearing independent record store. There are special limited number releases and items made only for record store day . The stores feature live bands, DJ's, and food.
We got up early that Saturday to make it to the farmer's market to walk around and meet up with some friends. While watching another duo playing at the market you started dancing around. I love watching you dance because you are so attentive to the beat. You have a unique groove for different types of music and sounds. We spoke with your Aunties for a moment and grabbed a little lunch.
Sleepiness crept over you as we left the market for Landlocked Music but you perked right up as you were greeted by music, a pizza cart and lots of people ready to pick you up. Our friends' Brad Baute and Joel Lynch's band played some oldie tyme music. You clearly enjoyed this and walked back and forth staring them down as they played.
The Greek's pizza cart was your best friend and you'd press your face against the glass and say, "Cheese! Cheese!" You set about to work inside of the record store with the owner's son Oscar picking up unfolded record covers. Soon the volume of people, music and the excitement of picking new records (The Motels, The Evens, British Hits and The Hollies) pushed you over the edge. Daddy purchased Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, Flaming Lips, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, the Yeah Yeah Yeah's single that were all promotional on Record Store Day only. The tired was smackin' you down so we left to get your stroller so you could allow the sleep to take you, but not before you got your promotional DEVO energy dome.
You took a short nap and had some food and it was time to attend Ruby's 4th birthday party at Rising Star Gymnastic Center.
While you didn't get to participate in the bigger kids lead activities you didn't mind. You were too busy jumping into the foam pit and getting your sea legs on the trampoline. When you first landed in the pit you quickly sifted toward the bottom of the blocks with your arms reaching out for help. I grabbed you and was greeted with a giggle. I tossed you into the air and against my parenting safety net let you fluff into the foam. You loved it and quickly got your bearings with how to stay above the foam. While the place was scented by thousands of tiny sweaty feet it was SO much fun! watching the mob of kids jumping into the pit and swimming across. oh how happy I was that our boy was in the middle of it too. Needless to say after the Market, Record Store Day, and Ruby's party you were toast by 5:00 PM, drifting off to sleep early and continuing late into the morning.
I'm grateful that we have such a cool little dude to enjoy all our wonderful community has to offer. There is much more to come Peep!
Love, Mommy
