Robot Hulk!
Dear Green Monster,
I caught ya! While I was finishing up laundry, I put you on the back porch with some markers and paper...pointing out that you shouldn't draw on the deck, the house and/or anything other than the baby in front of you. I forgot to add your body, but as long as it isn't Sharpie I don't care. So I watched...and then I noticed you were covered in green.
You were trying to change your skin color to the Hulk. You did a pretty convincing job on one entire hand and forearm.
So proud of yourself for getting, "even your fingernails," I told you to give me your best Hulk poses...here is what I got, minus the guttural rumblings coming from deep within your throat as you strained to flex your muscle into a display of tuff glory.
After this display I ushered you into the shower as fast as possible as anything you even brushed against had a green smudge on it. A green puddle gathered around your feet.
I love my creative dude, even if you are a little message.
Love, Mama

Big Boy Baths
Dear Henry,
Bath time has been the subject of many posts on your blog. This is most likely because it is hard to top the cuteness of a splashing naked baby with a dewy face and slicked down hair.
There are new developments on this front. You no longer will sit in the sink downstairs and you will no longer sit in cousin Johnny's old tub, therefore you are now sitting on the bottom of the real bathtub with water up to your butt. The first time Mommy and Daddy were a bit silly and didn't have a non-skid mat on the bottom of the tub and your little bum slipped and slid after those rubber duckies the entire time. With the non-skid mat you sit still for the most part and splash your little heart out. Each time you get in the tub you seem to want to stay longer. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful you don't want to be filthy and sour smelling, I just have to change my clothes afterward because they are soaked from your glee filled frolicking. These are the days I dreamed of.
Here is a photo of your reflection in the metal thingy at the end of the tub....
Love, Mommy

Grandma P's Sink Bath = Happy and Clean
Dear Henry,Grandma P loves giving babies baths, although you seem much more little boy than baby these days.... and you are no exception. When we are there she sometimes washes you 2 times in 1 day! I know! Mommy did not pick up on this as if you get washed a few times a week at home you're doing good. You don't mind. You enjoy splashing and getting snuggled when bath time is over. Grandma P might hate me for this but she was having a great time trying to make you smile. She was dancing around and waving a paper towel roll around in the air trying to get your attention.

Lint in the Armpits, Goo in the Neck Roll
Dear Henry,
Mommy is back on track now. Engagement photos I took for the daughter of one of Papa's co-workers are completed. Yeah! I will now spend my "free" time getting down all of the new details of your life from the last couple of weeks and shut down blog entries that begin, "I know I'm getting really behind but...." With about 300 photos I have a lot to say about your keen quickly developing awareness of your body, Mama and Papa, and the world.
So I will start with bath time.
In general Mommy has been giving you a washing in the basement sink, sprayin' your little body and using a washcloth. It is quick and efficient and you seem to enjoy it a bit. As I wash your hair you reach your go go gadget legs out as far as you can to flip your feet around in the streaming water. You've also started to twist, drag the towel into the sink with you, and knock over every shampoo and lotion bottle on the counter with your sweeping arms.
To give you a little variety a few weekends ago Mama and Papa gave you a bath in the kitchen with warm water filled up in the little tub you borrowed from cousin Johnny. (And believe me, every time Johnny visits he reminds you of it... a couple of weeks ago he told Grandma P that someone has been sneakin' into his house at night and stealing his toys and giving them to Henry.) Papa washed you in your tub and you SPLASHED like a fish in a bucket of water.

It was a happy family moment. I know I've posted lots of bath photos before but you keep getting bigger so it gives a good perspective of that growth...and what baby isn't cute in a bath tub? After bath time is a good photo opportunity as well because your hair looks like a little baby monkey and it melts my heart.
Keepin' ya clean and loved,
Mommy

Rub A Dub Dub, Mommy, Daddy, Baby and a Tub
Dear Henry,Today was Hank and Daddy day. All day long you and Daddy talked, laughed, ate and napped together. For your bath today instead of sitting you under the stream of water in the basement sink you've come to love so much we decided to use Cousin Johnny's little tub. It was so hard for Cousin Johnny to part with it I felt we needed to at least try and use it at home. In short, YOU LOVED IT! You kicked your lil feet around and smiled big smiles at Papa.

Oh life can be so simple...
Love, Mommy

The Big Bang
Dear Henry,
The last couple of days things in your digestive tract have been switchin' it up a bit.
Your.... gas.... has been the most stinky thing to pass my nose... stinkier than the chicken markets in Mexico City. Someday I hope you experience this so you know what I'm talking about. I don't blame you. It is the formula but typically I think you need a changing and there is nothin' there... until today.
There was an explosion! I took off your little gray cords and grabbed your other leg to get your diaper off and felt something sticky. I looked down and saw your entire back, leg, toes, socks, pants, onesie and fingers covered in the sticky green clay. I won't try to act nonchalant about this. I had to sit and think for a good minute or two about what to do. We were in the middle of the living room with the wipes on the other side. So I put you on your fuzzy blanket and gently dragged you on it until I was close enough to reach the wipes. I got you roughly cleaned up using about 20 wipes, there were specks here and there so I gave you another bath. You are a real champ. It didn't seem to phase you a bit. You just stared at me and let me do what needed done.
I did something unforgivable in this economy, I just tossed those little square cords. I paid two bucks for them at Once Upon a Child so technically they were recycled and inexpensive so I'd already saved them once. I could not get the gunk out. Sorry. Funny how I noticed this morning that those little gray cords were about 1" too short, I just pulled them down a bit more than usual. Little gray cords are no more.
My camera was near-by so I got one shot. It doesn't capture inside the onesie or pants, ewe.

You liked the second bath and smiled when I said, "You are the stinkiest thing EVER, but I still love you!"
And I do.
Love,
Mommy, in the trenches.
