Pizza Pie and Splash Pad

Dear Henny,
Summer seemed so short yet we jammed in as many day trips as possible.  One we couldn't leave out was a visit to JoJo, your birthmom.  We took the leisurely 45 minute drive over and the minutes and miles couldn't roll behind us fast enough for your liking.  We arrive and you're happy to see they are still tucked away in their cozy cabin and you and Hazel jump out and take off leaving me to shut the doors.  T shows you their kittens and JoJo tries to convince me to take one, while cute, no thank you!  After hugs and quick catch up we decide we are all hungry and we need pizza NOW.  The Pizza Hut we had eaten at before was closed down and in a little town with few options we back tracked to Anthony's Pizza, JoJo saw along the way.  It turned out to be a a gem with great food and even better service.  They sell by the slice but when I told the guy I needed to feed all 4 kids and two mom's he cut me a deal of a GIANT pizza, breadsticks and drinks.
We even had enough left to share with our husbands later.  After lunch we went to a local park and played there for a bit.  Then we ran around the skate park.  You and T had races together while Hazel and Josiah slid down the side and got sweaty.

After feeling like we were trapped in an oven, JoJo pointed out the free splash pad and we all said yes!  It was a great splash pad and we had it all to ourselves.  I loved seeing how you and T played together this time, clearly completely and utterly happy to be in each others time and space.  You hugged tightly while anticipating the bucket of water crashing down over your heads.

On the way home you went on about how you love how cute and tiny Josiah is and how soft his hair is, which you kept petting.  We had a really fun easy time together, as always.  I am so glad we got to see them before school started.

We love our JoJo and the boys.

Lake Griffy Fun

Dear Henry,
A great weekend getting to go with Bahboo and his boat to the reservoir around the corner from our house. Mama made sure we had plenty of snacks including PB&J's, beef sticks, BBQ chips, fruity snacks and waters. We stuffed our face and watched turtles, geese, and fish. You looked cool in your Star Wars hat and when asked if you were having fun you replied with a, "Duh!" Or a "Boy am I ever!" So we ended our time at Griffy catching tadpoles, just to cinch up that a good time was had. I love spending time with you and Bahboo. We have a lot more time for such adventures together.

Water Baby

Dear Hazel,
We took you to the splash pad for the first time.  We didn't keep you in the water long but you seemed to like it and get really stimulated by it.  You tightened up and your tongue started moving and you looked all around.  We enjoyed watching you experience it.  We will go back when it is hotter out and you won't get so cold.  Can't wait!

Short Road Trip

Dear Henny and Hay-zell,
We woke up Saturday and Mommy felt like going on a short adventure Daddy and the both of you were down with it.  We decided to go visit Mama's aunt Linda and uncle John in Ohio, meet up with friends Mike and Amy at Ikea and come back on Sunday.  It would be an understatement to say you were excited.  Henry, you just couldn't wait to stay at a hotel with a pool and hot tub.  We would periodically hear from the back of the van a sweet little boy's voice declaring, "I am so excited!"  Hazel, you were the perfect little traveler.
We enjoyed our time with Amy and Mike at Ikea.  Then we got back to the hotel and made it to the pool in time for a 15 minute dip in the hot tub and you helped the hotel lady put the cover on.
You were so helpful and a good listener.  Daddy and I were proud of you.  Back at the room you drew pictures on every page of the in room note pad while Hazel snuggled in readying herself for sleep, you drew this too.
We finally got you settled and my three buddies cuddled up to snooze.
Then next morning we slept in and then made it down to breakfast where the WONDERFUL workers there fawned all over your and Hazel and got us some extra sausage.  We went swimming again and this time Hazel joined you for her introduction to the pool and hot tub.
Hazel, you wore a little green and white striped bikini that was BEYOND CUTE!  Even your brother squealed, "OH, CUTE, CUTE, CUTE!"  You had no problem floatin' in the water.  The hot tub made you veg out in seconds...and just your little tootsies were in.
Henry has really started doing a great job taking pictures, I get to be in some now too!
After we cleaned up and got our bags together we went to Uncle Johns and Aunt Linda's.  We had such a nice visit.  Linda is a great cook and much like my Grandma Stella she made sure she had food on hand, a wonderful mushroom and barley soup.  She made you a special pbj and had cute little apples and oranges for you to try.
She dragged out a ton of crap for you to play with while John gave Hazel snuggles.
We were having a great time but it was getting dark so we took off for home.  You slept a lot waking to ask when we'd go back to our hotel to swim.  It was great getting away a little with our team of four.

Buddy Power!

Dear Peep,
Most of us old people can't think of something more fun than being a little kid and getting the chance to hang out with friends.  At least once a week Mommy tries to set up time to play with others.  Mommy needs adult lady talk and Henny needs him some play time with kids.  One week we had Heather, Etienne, Sylvie, Brook, and Lily over to play in the sprinkler and hang out.  Now that you're all walking and communicating better it is a good time to watch you play.  You, over all, share well and are just too cute for us to handle.  After sprinkler time we drove across town to have lunch at Heathers.  We stayed until it was clear the 4 babies were in need of a nap...and you slept a LONG time.  Here are some photos...

Oh! Windy City, You Blew Us Away! Part 1 of 3

Dear Honree (That's what you've been calling yourself),
Early last month Dadoo was called to Chicago to attend a regional work meeting.  We were able to tag along.  While Dadoo worked all day we ran around Chicago having an exciting time.  Lucky us! Chicago!  It felt sad not having Dadoo there to share in the experience but I am so grateful we had those three days together in the big city.  I decided we'd have some big adventures just bummin' around rather than spending a lot of money to enter the museums.  After all, without Dadoo the expected excitement of the Science and Industry, the awe of the aquarium, the creepiness of the Museum of Natural History or the creative juices of the art museum would feel empty and bland.  To our fortuitous bliss the weather was 92 and SUNNY!  A fluke but for us a blessing, days before our arrival it was quite cool and the day we left rain, winds and chill prevailed.  So our impromptu itinerary...

Day 1, We dropped Dadoo off at the federal building just after noon with hugs and kisses.  Swept away in the Chicago traffic we checked in at the Amalfi hotel.  The ultra modern lobby was really exciting to you and your hands had to touch the glass water feature by the check in desk.  We entered the room and you were jumpin' around, checkin' things out, pulling open doors and peepin' out the window.  We needed to change your clothes because the weather was so great and I laid you on the bed.  You sunk into the plumped up pillows, sighed and said, "Sleep!"  You've never said the word sleep before so I figure you thought this was a pretty dreamy bed.  A call from the front desk to remind us to, "go park our car already," and poopie in your pants gave me reason to hurry to gather our things to go.  Luckily the hotel's parking was in a very spotable building, Marina City apartments and offices, the only white round buildings in a climbing zoo of shining glass rectangles.  I decided this was a prominent enough compass to guide ourselves back to the hotel so I set out on foot, you by stroller.  In about 60 seconds, "BAM!" your mind exploded from all of the new input.  Perched forward on the edge of your stroller we crossed a draw bridge pausing to look at the water and boats passing below.  Your finger couldn't point fast enough and you couldn't get out words or sounds...then boat!, water!, OH! OH! breaks through.  We hoofed it along the river down to Navy Pier.  Eh, Navy Pier, not such a big deal, except for Garrett's Popcorn the Chicago mix, a
large sailing ship pushing off, birds pickin' up the popcorn you dropped, funny mirrors and lots of water to look at.  You loved it!
I was worn out from the four hour drive, the walk and the heat so we spotted a water taxi.  For 4 bucks we were able to ride it nearly all the way back to the hotel.  This being your first time on a boat your excitement was electric as was your apprehension.  Clearly, my Henry is a confident dude so you hopped around until the motor went into gear, pulled into the river and with the visual space before us I said, "Henny, look up!  Look at the tall buildings. Wave at all the people in the windows."  You craned your neck back and said, "OHH!" and started to wave.  I tried to scoot you over a bit so I could get a photo of you but still looking around you'd shuffle your buns back to my side, spotting things you knew the name of while wadding the corner of my sweater into your sweaty hand or patting my knee.
The bridges really made you perk up and your eyes widened as we passed under them.  I looked at your sparkly brown green eyes, synapses firing, one hand waving, the other clutching.  AND...
TINK! just like that, a rough edge I didn't know I had chipped off from my heart, lofted overboard and seesawed through the water to the river bed, settling there permanently.  I am your Mama, clearly your Mama and you feel safe with me.  I took a deep breath away from the city panic and inhaled the entirety of the moment the best I could.  My dreams of a little buddy materialized in a river taxi in Chicago.  I had anticipated time together in Chicago was going to be a treasure (a word you started saying in Chicago).  The boat stopped and I snapped out of la la land when I had to carry your stroller with you, a full diaper bag and the jumbo sized popcorn up two VERY long, steep rises of steps.   It was time to pick up Dadoo.  Returning to the hotel we rested a little while you arranged the shoes in the window.
Then we met Stacy and Kevin, a couple of Chicago friends for dinner.  After eating we returned to our hotel room and chit chatted and laughed at your antics until Mama got the idea to put you in the free robe. You tripped and fell on the fancy modern cabinet handles that stick out a couple of inches into the room.  You cut the corner of your eye on it, gushing blood and crying hard.  We were all a little freaked but the blood stopped, Stacy had Neosporian handy in her purse, and you were back to playing but it was clearly time for bed.  End of day 1!

Did I Tell Ya You Love the Water?

Dear Fishry,

Have I mentioned how much you love the water?  Oh, well here are some more examples of swimming at Bahboo and Grandma P's pool, the hot tub, bath and just gettin' your face in the water.  You love makin' friends in the water too and picked up this sweet little honey at the splash park a couple of weeks ago.  You don't yet have a refined pick up line but you smoothly tried to "borrow" her little cup.  Mommy's cousin's boys JD, Kolsen and Nash came by for a swim and Grandma P's and Bahboo's.  JD loves helping you do things.  Nash jumped from the diving board for one of the first times!  It was really cool.
Another day Ella, Tyler, Kerri, Clarice and Wendy made a pool visit.  Ella liked making you water balloons and Bahboo enjoyed letting them go in your face to hear you giggle.    You and Jonny had a great time playing in the tub during his visit and playing at the public pool together.  Jonny went down the slide for the first time and Anthony did some crazy good flips from the diving board.
If we ask you to put your face in the water, even if you aren't in water, you will.  So cute.

Enjoy the pictures.  The public pool has closed so our water fun is likely to taper off of a while now.  So sad.
